All class material, curriculum and guidelines are subject to change at any time. Some classes may require a laptop. Refunds can be made up to a week in advance. Refunds may be given at MFY’s discretion if a camp is not full.  The EventBrite link closes one hour before the camp begins.  You may also bring cash, check or credit the day of to our office if the camp is still open.

Introduction to Animation: For kids aged 9-12
Learn the basics of Blender, a free and open source 3D modeling studio. Learn about keyframes and create a basic animation of objects shifting and interacting. Learn the basics of animation with armatures, animate a figure with a “skeleton” used for quick and easy figure manipulation.

imageIntroduction to Programming: For kids aged 9-12
Learn the basics of coding using Processing, an open source programming language and coding environment for people who want to create images, animations, games, and more!  You’ll learn the core concepts needed for writing code in almost any language.  Then, using Processing’s extensive library of functions, you’ll use those new coding skills to quickly build graphical programs, with infinite possibility for behaviors and interactions.  You can then export your program as a Java applet that can be shared with your friends, or easily embedded on an HTML website.  The value and reach of computer programming in today’s industries are rapidly growing, so get started building your skillset at MakersFactory!

Minecraft Camp: For kids aged 9-12minecraftcampclubweb
Take your minecrafting to the next level with MakersFactory Minecraft Camp! Plan and design massive constructions, build elaborate Redstone contraptions, work as a team and build a world all your own. The Minecraft camp is entirely student-led so each class will be completely different as students decide collaboratively how and what to create each time. Instructors will facilitate organization and operate as “GMs” to make sure each student’s ideas can be fully realized in the Minecraft world. Students will transform an ordinary Minecraft  landscape… but into what? Sign up and find out!

PLEASE NOTE: Students are required to bring a laptop and have a valid minecraft account already set up before coming to class. Introduction to Robotics Camp: For kids aged 9-12mindstormweb
Summer is a great time to get your hands on some fun projects. As a team, use our LEGO Mindstorms kit to build and program a true robot to perform various tasks. Learn basic programming concepts with the drag-and-drop “kid friendly” Mindstorms software. Use mechanical engineering concepts to create accessories for the robot to use in completing it’s tasks.  Don’t worry if you don’t have any experience with any of the elements – design, electronics or programming because we’ll start at the most basic level and take you through the entire process in a supportive and fun environment.

Introduction to Game Design Camp: For kids aged 9-12DSC_0090web
Like movie making, game design involves a lot of complicated processes, from programming the environment and character abilities to inventing the levels and point systems. These parts of game design and more will be covered in this weeklong course, using the game design software GameMaker. Participants will have the chance to work in a small group setting to discover more about the fascinating world of gaming. Participants will receive with both an editable GameMaker file and an executable file of their game to send to their friends.

Craft Camp: For kids aged 9+Felt-Bracelet
Connecting the physical world of textile crafts to the programmable world of electronics is becoming a popular past time for fashion designers, industrial designers and curiosity seekers alike. Come find out yourself how you can dive into this limitless world of sof circuitry. You’ll learn electronics basics and how to program a mico controller. Projects include parallel circuit wrist bands, embroidery scene, and plush doll using electronic components and lillypad arduino. Ability to sew is recommended.

There’s a lot of roles involved in making an animated short – story artist, set designer and character animator to name a few. Here’s your chance to learn what it takes to truly animate a movie. Working in a supportive team environment, you’ll create models, landscapes, rigging and animated movements using the open-source software Blender (www.blender.org).

Introduction to Programming Camp: For kids aged 9-12image
Learn the basics of computer programming in this five day camp with MakersFactory! We will use a variety of programming languages, including Processing (http://www.processing.org), a Java-based language designed to produce interesting graphics and simple games, Arduino microcontrollers (http://arduino.cc/), and Python (http://python.org/), a powerful and modern industry standard. This class is designed for curious aspiring programmers and students need no prior experience in programming or in any of the mentioned programming languages although basic proficiency in computers is required.

Introduction to Electronics Camp: For kids aged 9-12Back Camera
Ever wondered how all of today’s electronics gadgets work? Ever wanted to try to make some electronic contraption of your own? In this introductory electronics course we’ll learn the basics of electricity, explore different kinds of circuit components and even makes some electronic devices from scratch. This will include a programmable grid of LED lights and a simple radio.

Intermediate Game Design Camp: For kids aged 10+
One of our most popular subjects is going on to Level Two! In our Intermediate Game Design Camp, kids will advance their skills in GameMaker to tackle more complex game design challenges. Starting off with a basic game template, we’ll be polishing the level design, adding menus, manipulating artwork, and taking a look at the GameMaker Script to bring complexity and customization to original game. Take your game design skills to the next level! (NOTE: Camper must either have taken a previous Game Design class at MakersFactory, or otherwise prove basic proficiency with the GameMaker software.)
